Between 26 and 28 April, 9 SIS string ensemble and Ms. Coetzee went to Guangzhou, where they were involved in the South East Asia Festival at AISG.
The festival takes place every year, and is an opportunity for the strings players from four schools to work collaboratively and quite vigorously for 2 days in order to present a concert at the end of the festival. This is a wonderful way to extend music learning beyond the classroom and meet students from different international schools in China. All the schools prepare the same music prior to the concerts and the students are able to work with a new director/conductor for the two days. This year the conductor is Guime Odendaal, who is the secondary music teacher at Tashkent International School.
The students were wonderful ambassadors to the school and maintained a high level of performance throughout 2 strenuous days of practicing. The link for the livestream of the concert is still available to watch the performance:
