This school year's High School Prom was held at The Westin Hotel on April 7th, 2018. Prom is held annually around schools all over the world and is a formal gathering for students to interact. SIS's Prom mainly aims to celebrate the seniors and their time at school. We, Titta and Awani, were this year's Prom directors and were in charge of planning the evening. The initial planning started late November, we began to brainstorm possible venues and themes. Awani's connections to The Westin gave us a nice affordable space to hold the event. In the end, we decided on a theme: Under the Stars. As soon as a theme was established, we began mapping out the venue and the decoration preparation started. This is a glimpse of the process that we went through to make Prom 2018 as memorable as possible. Ticket sales went smoothly while they were available and we got the majority of High School to attend.
A couple days before the big night, we were both busy checking and contacting the decorators and photographer. We had a specific vision for the night and wanted to do our best to bring that to life.
Prom began once students started arriving around 7pm that evening, all arriving in beautiful formal attire. Dinner was served first once all the guests arrived and the comments we got back were very positive! The Westin served the food, but we were in charge of the menu. From pasta to a sushi bar, there was an incredible array of different foods, we even had an ice cream stand! After dinner, we honored our seniors by playing a Kahoot game of guess the baby. We thought this was a good way to engage all students in wishing the seniors good luck. Ending the senior tribute, our High School STUCO President gave a short speech. He had positive comments on the Prom that we organized. The President said, "They surely outdid the Prom from last year."
We are incredibly glad to have been able to plan and manage an event such as Prom, and we thank all the Prom Committee members who aided us during this process. All impressions of the night were positive and rewarding to hear. Thank you to everyone who came out to Prom and the teacher chaperones who supervised. A special thank you to Mrs. Krouse for being our teacher supervisor and to PSA for their kind donations to Prom!
