From 20-22 April, twelve middle school students travelled to Guangzhou to represent SIS at the annual South East Asia Strings Honour Orchestra Festival. We joined four other schools from Shanghai, and Guangzhou and were in a combined orchestra of 75 students. The various schools had been preparing a specific repertoire which was presented at a concert on Saturday afternoon. The combined orchestras were conducted by MS. Cindy Buteel from The International School of Beijing. Many hours were spent rehearsing on Friday and Saturday, and the SIS students were valued members in each section of the orchestra. Their continued dedication and practice routine at home and in the orchestra at school meant that they were easily incorporated into a larger orchestra. This kind of learning experience is valuable to our students on many levels, including collaborative work, communication through music and forming friendships with learners at different schools.
We are very proud of all they have achieved and the growth and learning that they were able to experience.
