On April 5th, 10 of our SIS MS Choir members traveled to Jakarta Intercultural School in Indonesia to participate in the AMIS Middle School Honor Boys' and Girls' Choir Festival. To participate in the festival, they were required to demonstrate through audition they possessed attitude and skills required to learn 9 new pieces of music and were able to sing their parts with confidence. The students spent many hours in February and March at home and at school practicing and learning the pieces, and when we arrived at JIS, they combined to form a choir of 171 members from 14 international schools.
AMIS(Association for Music in International Schools) is an international, non-profit organization founded almost 40 years ago by music teachers at the American School of London, and has grown to sponsor about a dozen festivals for MS and HS choirs, band, and strings, in addition to music educator professional development at international schools all over the world. The Festival was an outstanding experience for our SIS choir. On Thursday and Friday, they arrived at JIS around 7:30 and rehearsed 6-7 hours. On Friday afternoon, they participated in traditional Indonesian Cultural activities where they learned how to play Gamelan instruments, perform Saman Dances, and were given an energetic workout with a martial arts expert.
After another day of practice and dress rehearsals, they performed in the 2017 AMIS MS Honor Choir Concert. The concert was outstanding and SIS was well represented by these very polite, hard-working, and dedicated students. Congratulations to the following SIS Choir members for their participation in the 2017 AMIS MS Honor Boy's and Girls' Choir Festival:
