From March 1st to March 5th, 17 students and two teachers traveled to Beijing to participate in the 24th annual BEIMUN conference, a Model United Nations simulation hosted by the International School of Beijing. SIS Junior Michelle Lee participated in the conference as a committee chair and had this to say:
This year, we were representing the delegations of the United Kingdom, Turkey, and Panama. The BEIMUN conference this year was the first MUN conference for many of our delegates. However, I believe that our SIS students eliminated those barriers by continuously working and tackling the issues despite their inexperience. I am proud to say that our SIS delegates have shown success through their commitment and willingness to learn. In fact, our delegates have been recognized numerous times for their outgoing contributions, powerful speeches, and hard work by other chairs, and some even got to main submit both during the resolution and the crisis, which surely is a challenging task for any experienced delegate. The debates were very competitive, but every second of each debate was also very productive. In addition to participating in the conference, our delegates travelled to the Great Wall of China, where they took the cable cars up, slides down, and enjoyed the view of the countryside. This 2017 BEIMUN experience could not have been better. I couldn't have asked for a more hardworking and caring group of delegates, directors, and chairs. I hope all delegates and my fellow chairs will continue on with their MUN careers, and hopefully continue contributing in making a change in the world.
